VW T5 Wohnbox Eigenbau T5 4 motion

I am selling my VW T5 double cab flatbed (4Motion, selectable rear differential lock, Seikel suspension and gearbox) – equipped with a custom-built, self-sufficient camper box mounted on the load bed.

This is a thoughtfully designed and robust travel vehicle for 2 people, fully road-ready, and still offers many options for individual customization.

Base vehicle:
VW T5 2.5 TDI BNZ-AIX, 131 hp, 5-cylinder engine, 6-speed manual transmission.
First registered 11/2006, currently 221,800 km. Technical inspection (TÜV) will be renewed upon sale.
Features include: central locking, cruise control, on-board computer, manual air conditioning, Webasto auxiliary heater for the driver’s cab with additional battery under the driver’s seat, retrofitted reversing camera, and tow bar.

Special features:
Seikel gearbox with shorter gear ratios for improved off-road capability and optimized gearing for both slow off-road driving and mountain passes. Seikel suspension with raised ride height, rear air suspension (Goldschmitt), upgraded payload to 3,490 kg. 6mm aluminum underride protection. Relleum snorkel (increased wading depth). Two Relleum recovery eyes at the front. All-terrain tires 235/70 R16 (registered with speedometer adjustment) on alloy wheels, including spare. Large custom-made aluminum rooftop box above the cab.

Registration: Truck with open bed (LKW offener Kasten), optionally registered as a motorhome with the camper box. Currently, the box is cargo within the loading bed sidewalls. The standard 3-seater passenger bench in the cab has been removed and replaced with a loading platform, which accommodates our e-bikes, accessories, and all camping equipment. The bench seat is available and can be reinstalled at any time.

Technical inspection (TÜV) will be renewed prior to sale. The vehicle is still registered and can be test driven.

Camper box (self-build 2022/23):
Sturdy timber frame construction with OSB/XPS infill, half-timbered style, exterior cladding of Alu-Dibond, all edges protected by heavy-duty 2mm aluminum angles. Roof made of GRP sandwich panel with large skylight.

Interior cladding of Swiss pine and natural felt for a pleasant living climate. L-shaped double bed (lower: 195 × 70 cm, upper: 180 × 70 cm), composting separating toilet, wash basin (Boxio), portable gas cooker, one small integrated fridge, with an additional large fridge available for the driver’s cab.

Independent electrical system:
200 Ah LiFePo4 (Ective), 2000 W inverter, 240 Wp solar system, two Victron MPPT charge controllers. Water supply via flexible canisters. Heating via 500 W electric heater.

The camper box can be lifted off and re-mounted using chain hoists attached to the heavy-duty lashing points.

Comprehensive accessories: awnings, fridges, etc. A wide range of recovery gear is available by separate negotiation.

The T5 is well-maintained, and since purchasing in February 2022 I have invested approx. €20,000 in upgrades and maintenance (including new clutch, complete engine overhaul including PDE-bridge, turbocharger, and more). Materials for the camper box alone totaled approx. €12,000, especially for the high-quality electrical system. Invoices and a photographic documentation of the build are available.
